The module aims to provide the student with a chance to critically analyse a topic of interest within nursing.
The aim of this module is to: equip students with the knowledge to be able to undertake a literature review in an area of interest to the student.
By the end of this module the student should be able to:
1. Demonstrate advanced literature searching skills.
2. Critically analyse literature within an area of interest.
3. Demonstrate the ability to synthesise a body of literature.
4. Critically evaluate a range of research methods.
5. Write a literature review using a systematic approach
1 Research skills
Interpreting data, advanced search strategy skills, critical thinking and evaluation, ethics, research methods,topic identification.
2 Nature of literature reviews
Critical writing skills, evaluation and synthesis of research,presentation and organisational skills.
3 Literature searching
Use CINAHL and other relevant databases to identify a bodd of literature for review.
Statement on Teaching, Learning and Assessment
Students will be taught mainly through one to one supervision. Additional activities to develop their understanding of writing a literature review will comprise of individual advanced literature searching, seminars evaluation of journal articles, presentation skills. Group tasks include , critically discussing findings within the literature.

Credit Value – The total value of SCQF credits for the module. 20 credits are the equivalent of 10 ECTS credits. A full-time student should normally register for 60 SCQF credits per semester.
