Aims

The aim of this module is to provide students with an understanding of the theoretical models that underpin current economic practice.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module the student should be able to:

1.  Understand basic micro and macroeconomic models.

2.  Apply economic models to 'real world' problems and situations.

Indicative Content

1 Market Forces of Supply and Demand

Basic economic modelling apparatus.

2 The Firm and Market Structure.

3 Monetary and Fiscal Policy.

4 International Trade and Capital Flows

5 Currency Exchange Rates

6 Economic Growth and Development

This lecture-based module is supported by tutorials. Students will be engaged in enquiry-based work for at least 55% of their contact time, and that enquiry process will drive their independent access to more than half of the material with which they work .
