This module introduces you to aspects of professional practice and standards of communication
The aim of this Module is to provide the student with :an understanding of different business communication styles, how and when to use them and how to create a compelling narrative
By the end of this module the student should be able to:
1. Select and communicate using different media in an appropriate professional style
2. Use graphical elements to communicate information
3. Critique the writing of a peer and provide constructive feedback and act on the feedback of a peer.
Identifying the objective of the communication; audience and medium; different styles for different media; making your writing engaging.
2 Working with clients and in a professional context
Professional practice expectations of working within a business environment. Introducing yourself, presenting information orally, running meetings concluding and following up meetings.
The importance of aesthetic; punctuation, grammar and usage; structure; creating a logical narrative; use of evidence to support assertions. Considering the differences between writing styles e.g. for academic purposes (lit review) or more sales purpose (marketing poster)
4 Including diagrammatic and pictorial elements
Data visualisation, data dashboards & data maps; creating infographics;
Proofing, pruning & polishing; reviewing the work of others; acting on feedback
Statement on Teaching, Learning and Assessment
Students will work through case studies (both theoretical and from real clients). They will be able to practice interaction with clients and build up their knowledge of professional conduct and expectations of different communication approaches. Part of this module will also involve peer reviewing and how to edit work.

Credit Value – The total value of SCQF credits for the module. 20 credits are the equivalent of 10 ECTS credits. A full-time student should normally register for 60 SCQF credits per semester.
